THE BAND CONTEST.
NW PLYMOUTH SUCCESSES. TEST HYMN AND TWO SOLOS. By Telegraph,—Press Association. Thames, Oct. 6. The band contest has opened. There are eight bands and about 200 soloists. Results:— Euphonium solo.—J. Lowe (New Plymouth) 99, F. Beasley (Auckland Regimental) 93, F. A. Clarksen (Whakatane) 92. Test hymn.—New Plymouth 90, Dannevirke 89, Hamilton*BB. The Auckland W'atersiders’ Band tied for third place in the Hymn Test. Bass trombone.—A. Handley (New Plymouth) 89, H. Bfichanan (Hamilton) 85, J. Robinson (Hauraki) 83. The competitors recalled to contest the cornet championship to-night are: A. Williams (Te Aroha), R. Taylor (New Plymouth), and C. H. Haynes (Auckland Regimental).
