_ RACING IN AUSTRALIA. A.J.C. SPRING MEETING. BEAUFORD WINS CRAYON PLATE. By Telegraph.—Frees Assn.—Copyricht. Received Oct. 5, 8.15 p.m. Sydney, Oct. 5. ‘The weather was ideal for the third day of the Australian Jockey Club’s spring m&eting. The course was in excellent order. The was 35,000. The day’s racing was perhaps the most pleasant of the meeting. Profiting by observation of the first and second days’ racing, punters displayed keener discrimination in picking the winners, though excellent handicapping made them earn their winnings. Beauford’s victory was deservedly popular. Many doubted his ability to see out a mile and a quarter, but he not only saw the distance out, but established an Australasian record. New Zealand horses, whilst prominent during the progress of the races, failed to materialise at the finish. Details of the racing are:

MEMBERS’ HANDICAP; 750 so vs added; one mile and a quarter.—Publicity, 7.11, 1; Bitalli, 7.2, 2; Brank, 8.5, 3. Eleven starters. Publicity went to the front at the mile, and was never headed. Loyal Irish was prominent early in the race. Coniston was knocked back. Won by a neck. Time, 2min 6sec. GIMCRACK STAKES; 1500 sovs added: five furlongs.—Lady Aura 1, Theory 2, Wolverine 3. Sixteen started. Veil was noticeable rounding the bend, but finished fifth. Lady Aura went to the front entering the straight. Won by a length and a half. Time, Imin IJsec.

SYDNEY HANDICAP; 1000 sovs added; one mile and a half.—Keneppil, 7.4, 1; Prince Charles, 7.8, 2; Ecarte, 7.7, 3. Twelve started. Won by a length and a half. Time, 2min

SECOND HURDLE RACE; 750 sovs added; about two miles. —Colonel Knut, 10.4, 1; Airdrie, 11.10, 2; Redxcine, 11.0, 3. There was an excellent tussle over the last half mile between Colonel Knut and Airdrie. Won by three lengths. Time, 4min 38isec.

Eight started. Fluency, Fairy Bob and Beauford were prominent early. Beauford took command at the mile post, closely attended by Fluency. The same order existed entering the straight, with Syce Knight gaining ground. Won by three lengths. Time, 2min 3^sec —an Australasian record.

SUBURBAN HANDICAP; 1000 sovs added; one mile. —Julia Grey. 9.4, 1; Etive, 8.5, 2; Teremarau, 7.7, 3. Etive led most of the journey, Julia Grey coming at the finish and winning by a length and a quarter. Time, Imin 37$sec.

The weather was cloudy and sultry for the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s spring meeting to-day. The attendance was good, and the course in splendid order. The sum of £26,174 was put through the totalisator, compared with £38,501 last year, a decrease of £12,327. Results: TO MOAN A HURDLES, one mile and three-quarters.—Gay Boy (H. McSweeney) 1, Ah Fu 2.
