THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL.

VISIT TO NORTH TARANAKI. PROGRAMME DRAWN UP. A CITIZENS’ BALL. Arrangements in connection with the forthcoming visit of the Governor-General and Lady Jellicpe to New Plymouth were discussed at a meeting last night. The Mayor (Mr. F. E. Wilson) presided. After a good deal of general discussion a tentative programme was drawn up which will be submitted for His Excellency’s approval. The Vice-regal party are expected in New Plymouth about six o’clock on the evening of Thursday, the 27th instant, arriving by motor, probably via Opunake. Thursday evening will be left free to enable Their Excellencies to rest.

On Friday morning the Vice-regal party will be motored to various places of interest around New Plymouth. The public reception is timed for 11 a.m., and will be held at Pukekura Park, provided the weather is fine. In the event of the day being wet the welcome will be held at Everybody’s Theatre. In the afternoon the principal function will be the official opening of the Clarke Memorial Hostel, and this will occupy from 3 p.m. till 4.30 pan. The ceremony will be performed by Lady Jellicoe. Returned soldiers will be asked to parade at the reception, and will be invited to provide a guard of honor at both the morning and afternoon functions. For the evening the Savage Club and the Victoria League are arranging a citizens’ ball.

Saturday's programme commences at 9.30 a.m., when a trip to the mountain will be made. The party will lunch at the mountain house, and Their Excellencies will - then be motored to Inglewood, which will be reached about two o’clock. An hour will be spent there, and then Waitara will be visited from 3.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m., after which the party returns to New Plymouth. Ou Saturday night the Governor-General is to be entertained, by the Savage Club, and Lady Jellicoe will be entertained privately. No public functions are arranged for the Sunday. Their Excellencies return to Wellington by the express train on the Monday morning.
