SHEARERS’ AWARD.
A STATEMENT DENIED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Oct. 4. In connection with the statement of Mr. Grayndler, secretary of the Workers’ Union, to the effect that the shearers’ award applies to the Wellington district only, the Labor Department states that this is incorrect. The award applies to the Northern Taranaki, Wellington, Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago, and Southland dictricts. The case was heard throughout the country, Mr. Grayndler representing the unions and, at the request of both parties it was decided to make uniform awards, and this was done. The awards are now in force in all the districts mentioned, and the old award, completely superseded by the new one, and any sheepowner not bound by the new award is not bound by any award.
