RUSSIA’S DESTINY.

COMMUNISM WILL PASS. SOVIET THE ONE CHOICE. BARRIER OF PEASANTS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Oct. 3, 11.10 p.m. London, Oct. 3. Maxim Gorky, the Russian novelist, interviewed by the Daily News, declared that Communism would pass away, Russia giving birth to a sort of socialist republic or even a democratic republic similar to that of the United States. The vast experiment now being made in Russia would have an enormous influence upon the position of the proletariat. There was no chance whatever of a return of the Tsarist regime. The people largely supported the Communist Government because there was no alternative at present, but it was possible that if the Soviet fell complete chaos would ensue. The opposition by the peasants was too great for the success of Communism. The vast mass of the Russian peasantry were a barrier to all progress; they were brutal and debased and hardly human. There was complete cleavage between the country and the towns. Only intellectuals could save Russia. Maxim Gorky had beeu greatly impressed with the British trade agreement, from which he expected great things.—Reuter Service.
