Or dera lor papers may also be left witii them. STRATFORD TENNIS CLUB. October 1. The annual meeting of the Stratford Tennis Club was held on Friday night, Mr. Harold Masters (president)' presiding over an attendance of about twenty members. The annual report and balance sheet showed the club to be in a strong financial position, the credit balance being £44 Bs. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr. Harold A tasters: vice-presidents, Messrs. |B. V. Kivell and F. Ranford; honorary secretary, Air. D. Cameron; honorary treasurer, Air. W. A. Mackay; auditor, Mr. Fl. E. Lawrence; general committee, Mrs. Weston, Misses L. Nash iTnd V. Sanderson, Alessrs. H. Chadwick, H. W. Lightband and R. Curtis; match committee, Alessrs. W. A. Mackay, H. Chadwick and F. Ranford. Twenty-one new members were elected. A good deal of money has been spent in preparing the courts for the coming season, and an inspection a few days ago showed them to be in tip-top condition. It is hoped, if the weather holds good, that play 'will be commenced in four weeks, and everything points to the season being a most successful one.

AIONTHLY STATISTICS. The vital statistics for the month of September are as follows, figures fpr September of 1920 being given in parentheses: —‘Births, 17 (21); deaths, 6 (4); marriages 7 (4). Figures for the quarter ending September 30 are:—'Births 65 (73); deaths, 19 (11); marriages 22 (23). The rainfall figures for September show the fall of rain to be below the average, the total being 4.62 inches. There were only eight days on which there was rain. GENERAL. Air. E. Walter, chairman of the Stratford County Council, returned from the Counties’ Conference yesterday. There are to be two “silent policemen*’ traffic guides placed in Broadway, one at the junction of Broadway and Regan Street, and one at the junction of Broadway and Fenton Street. The guides, which are at present being made by the Stratford Borough Council, are of the same type which are in use in Hawera, and should pYove to be sufficient to supply the. regulation of traffic which is so needed on busy days. Mr. C. D. Sole, chairman of the Stratford Hospital Board, who underwent ac operation in the Stratford hospital on Saturday, is reported, to be making favorable progress. On Monday, October 3, the business premises of A. Alanoy, draper, will be closed on account of a special holiday. — Advt.
