Orders for papers may also bo left with. them. STRATFORD BOWLING CLUB. September 30. Yesterday afternoon members of the Stratford Bowling Club held practice play and it, is intended that further practices will be held on Thursdays only. In the evening a meeting of members in the form of a social evening was held in the club pavilion for the purpose of bidding farewell to Mr. S. Sharp, who is leaving to reside in Palmerston North. Mr. Skoglund (president) presided, and in presenting Mr. Sharp with a fountain pen as a memento from members of the club referred to his good play during the years he had been a member. Mr. Sharp thanked the members for their kindness in the past and for their good wishes. GENERAL. The funeral of the late Mr. T. Cookson took place at Midhirst yesterday, and the great respect in which the deceased was held was manifested by the very big number of residents from all the surrounding districts who assembled to pay their last respects to one who has left many sorrowing friends. It is stated that the funeral was one of the biggest even seen in the district, and the big number of wreaths was further testimony of the high esteem in which deceased was held. The bearers were the manager and employees of the Midhirst factory, fellow workers of the deceased, and the burial service was conducted by the Rev. C. W. Howard. The exhibition of war trophies, which is at present being held in the Town Hall', will close to-morrow and all who have not taken the opportunity of viewing the relics of the greatest war the world has ever seen are advised to take this last chance to do so. There has been a steady stream of visitors to the Town Hall ever since the exhibition opened last Saturday and up till to-dey just over £125 had been taken.
Mr. R. Masters, M.P. for Stratford, returned to Stratford by the mail train to-night to spend the week-end here. He will return to Wellington on Monday.
