INGLEWOOD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) As mentioned in the Daily News recently, Colonel Melville, on the occasion of his recent visit of inspection to Taranaki, presented Major Leech, who has now been posted to the retired list, with the 16 years’ service medal and the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers’ Decoration, awarded him for 20 years’ continual service. The recipient of the honors, whose long service Colonel Melville commended, came into the old Moa district, now Inglewood County, as a boy, a member of one of the very first, families to settle in the Moa Block, whither his parents removed from New Plymouth in 1875 or 1876, and Mr. Leech has been a resident here ever since. He is probably better known to present residents of the district as Mr. Arthur Leech, wheelwright, of Inglewood. His connection with military matters dates back to the days of the Inglewood Rangers. His many friends here will be pleased to learn of the award his long services have so well merited.
