PROTEST AGAINST MOTOR BILL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Sept. 26. The Motor Club, at the annual meeting, protested against the Motor Bill proposal to impose a heavy tax for annual registration, recommending the tyre tax. WAIKOKOPU HARBOR. Wairoa, Sept. 26. The chairman and members of the Harbor Board visited the Waikokopu harbor works on Saturday ajid interviewed the engineers regarding next year’s operations. In nine months with crude appliances the depth of water in the whole basin has been increased three feet, and it is estimated vessels will be able to berth at the wharves twelve months hence. GOLD PRODUCERS’ GRIEVANCE. Thames, Sept. 26. A meeting of gold producers decided to petition Parliament for compensation for loss on gold sales during the war. It was stated that gold had to be sold to the Bank of New Zealand at £4 per ounce, out of which Is 6d war tax and 3d per ounce insurance were paid. This gold was later sold in London at up to £6 5s per ounce, and the current price was £5 15s. AMERICAN SHIP SOLD. Christchurch, Sept. 26. The American ship Broxton was sold by auction to-day’ by order of the ViceAdmiralty Court. The purchaser was Mr. H. P. Bridge, American consular agent, Christchurch, and the price £6500. The ship was built last year at Seattle, and her net registered tonnage is 2664 tons.
