Or dera for papers may also ba left with them. 1 A. AND P. ASSOCIATION. j September 24. A meeting of the general committee of 1 the A. and P. Association was held to-day, : Mr. G. Sangster presiding over a good at- | tendance. The secretary’s report stated that it had I been decided to abandon, for the time ; being, the dog section of the show, in view j of the difficulty experienced in securing a j chairman who would be responsible for the • running of this section. A suggestion made i by one or two breeders that a special class be inserted in the cattle section fof tiie i best dairy cow, other than pedigree, had been acted upon, animals entered in the . grade and crossbred sections being eligible . for entry, and the judging to take place I on the second day of the show. As re- j ported lasi month, tenders were asked for i the erection of the new pig pens, the con- : tract being given to the lowest tender for ! a sum of slightly under £lOO. The present ; site not being considered the most suitable, j it had been decided to erect the new building between the horse boxes and the end judging ring. This work will be started almost immediately. Another very necessary alteration and improvement which, it is hoped, will be effected before the annual show is in connection with the hot water service both in the luncheon rooms and for the use of the public. The schedule is in the course of being printed, and will be ready for circulation about the middle of next week. In order to make the show the success anticipated, members are asked to solicit entries, wherever possible. The classes arranged are more numerous and attractive than on former occasions, and with the help of the general committee entries should show a record over the previous years. Mr. Linnell moved that the association should support the suggestion for the establishment of a Royal Show. There had been a suggestion that the movement, which was by no means new, would benefit the Manawatu and Canterbury Associations, but he thought all associations should support the idea, which was that the show be held only by associations with a membership of 1000, and would tend to build up associations like the Stratford one to the required number. The geographical position of Stratford justified the association in supporting a Royal Show, which would attract buyers from other countries who would not come to the Manawatu or Canterbury Shows. It would be a great advertisement for the country, and members should look at it from a national and not a parochial point of view. Mr. Perry supported a Royal Show, but pointed out that it might be ten years before the show came to Stratford, and be asked if (he association could bear the expense. The annual subscription was fifteen guineas. The chairman said that he thought there would not be a call for Stratford’s subscription for two years. The Stratford Show was already a big show, and when the branch railway was through it would be as important as Palmerston Show. After further discussion the motion was carried unanimously. The chairman drew rhe attention of members to the fact that the annual show was again drawing near, and the association was in need of more members. It was decided that a letter of condo- 1 lence should be sent to the relatives of the late Mr. T. Vickers, who was one of the ’ oldest members of the association. j It was resolved to place on record the appreciation of the valuable services to the association since its inception by Mr. R. McK. Morison, who is leaving the district. The large number of satisfied users of the Corona Portable Typewriter is the best advertisement the machine could have. It is ideal for secretaries, ministers and all business men. A special discount of ten per cent, off all machines is offered this month at Wilson Bros., Printers and Stationers, Stratford.
