BUBONIC PLAGUE.

INFECTED RATS DISCOVERED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Brisbane, Sept. 24. An infected rat was caught at Cairns, otherwise the plague position is unchanged. Sydney, Sept. 24. Another infected rat has been discovered at the wharf vacated by the Wyreema, otherwise the war against plague is proceeding satisfactorily. Received Sept. 25, 5.5 p.m. Sydney, Sept. 25. The belief that plague rats had been confined to the wharf, where the first ones were discovered, was shattered yesterday, when an infected rodent was caught in a city block outside the wharf cordon. The authorities are hopeful it is only a stray animal driven out by the activities of the rat-catchers inside the cordon, but further stringent precautions are being taken to meeu the development.
