BAND RECITAL.
YESTERDAY’S PROGRAMME.
A very large crowd gathered in Puke kura Park yesterday when a recital based on the programme for the Thame! contest, was given by the 4th Battalion Wellington Regiment (Taranaki Rifles) Band. An excellent display of ths marching events was made by the band and a general improvement in then work jwaa apparent. A musical treat was given at Every body’s Theatre last, night, when th< band (under conductor R. L. Ix>we; again rendered a number of items. Then was a crowded attendance. The banc played all the solo, concerted, and tea: selection music in a masterly manner The opening hymn “Arizona,” arrangec by the conductor, was given by special request, and was very much appreciated In addition to the band numbers, Mrs A. Avery sang “Take Thy Rest,” anc Messrs. Smith, Morrison, Laurence Thomson, Fredric and A. Veale rendorec “Abide With Me” and “Lead Kindlj Light.” Proceeds from the afternoon recital were £3B, and the concert in the even ing realised £23 12s, so that the resuh of the day’s efforts will be a aubstantia. addition to the contest expenses fund The band committee express theb thanks to ail who have assisted at th< series of concerts, and to Mr. A. Veale who has arranged the programme!. Next Sunday at Kawaroa Pa v k tin band will give a final concert before proceeding to the contest, which opens al Thames on October 5. The band, which will leave by the mail train on Monday morning, will be accompanied by several members of the citizens’ committee.
