The general feeling is one of elation at tht beneficial rain, though it nipped in the bud an improvement in oat and chaff values that was promised with the dry weather In the north anti the consequent feed shortage, ta develop into a mild boom, particularly tot chaff. The rnins, however, have effectually banished nil apprehension, and the market has steadied up. Oats are a shade easier, though a fair amount of business is being done, and 2s JI Vid at country stations is available for bright heavy A grade (Jartons. Chaff is worth from £3 fis to £.3 10s oil rail. The activity has died down, nut in any case the offerings had not been large. The opinion is that the rain has made a tremendous difference to the wheat prospects. The estimate of the area under crop ha# been put down at 350,000 acres, 00 per cenri more than last year, and one observer puts down the prospective increase in yield as tlu result of the timely rain at quite six bushels to the acre more than it prozniaed a fortnight ago.
