LONDON TALLOW SALES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Sept. 21. Tallow.—At the sales 1424 casks were offered and 590 sold at late rates to a shilling decline. Mutton, fine, 59s 6d, medium 53s 6d; beef, fine, 60s, medium 53s 6d. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Melbourne, Sept. 23. Barley,-r-Engllsh 4s 9d; Cape 3s 9d. Oats. —£2s 7d. Potatoes. —£3 10s to £5. Onions.—£2, £2 15s. THE PIG MARKET. There was a good yarding of pigs at Newton King, Ltd.’s, New Plymouth hay market yesterday. Weaners made from 16s Ud to 21s, slips 22s 6d to ,30s, stores up to 425, ba con er 40s, heifer calves sold at from 13s 6d to 28s. LONDON MARKETS. The New Zealand Loan, and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house, under date September 21: — Tallow.—We quote spot values for the following descriptions:—Fine mutton, £2 18s 0d per cwt.; good beef, £2 17s 6d per cwt.; mixed, £2 9s 6d per cwt. Small demand. New Zealand Frozen Meat.—Lamb, average 11 3-8 d per lb.; wethers and maiden ewes, light 7 5-8 d per lb., heavy 5 7-8 d per ib.; ewes, light 5 5-8 d per lb., heavy 5d per lb.; ox beef, hinds 5 5-8 d per lb.; fores 4d per lb.; cow beef, hinds 4%d per lb., fores 2%d per lb. New Zealand butter, £ll per cwt. Market New Zealand cheese, £5 to £5 6s per cwt. Market quiet. STRATFORD MART. Lamason’s weekly report states:—Last Saturday our usual weekly sale was held. There was a good attendance of the public, but rather a small entry of poultry and other lines offering. There Is still demand for all lines of poultry and vegetables, etc. Mart quotations are as under: Hens (old) 2s 6d to 3s 6d, others 3s to 4s Gd, pullets 6s 6d to 7s 6<l, hens and chickens 15s to 20s, ducks 4s 6d to ss, roosters 3s to ss, turkeys (wanted) 10s to 15s, cauliflowers 5s to 12s doz., cabbage (barl), oranges (Poorman) Is 6d doz., pumpkins 2s lb, onions 81bs Is, wheat Ils bushel, corn 7s, chaff £8 5s ton, 7s sack, oats 5s to 5s 6d, potatoes 13s sack, pollard 28s.
THE ADDINGTON MARKETS. IMPROVED TONE AS RESULT OF RAIN. Christchurch', Sept. 21. At. the Addington market there was an Improved tone to-day, due principally to improved feed prospects as a result of the rain. Store Sheep.—Ewes in lamb and forward wethers and hoggets sold more freely. Inferior 2,4, 6 and 8-tooth ewes In lamb, 8s sd, failing-mouthed empty ewes 8s lOd, inferior 2-tooth ewes in lamb, 9s 7d, 4,6, and 8-tooth wethers 10s 104 to Ils 3d, fairly forward 4 and 6-tooth wethers 15s, good halfbred ewe hoggets 14s sd, small Ils 2d, good wether hoggets 8s 10d, small halfbred wether hoggets 7s.
Spring Lambs.—B4 were yarded and sold at good prices, the bulk averaging 27s 6d to 34s Gd.
Fat Sheep—There was the smallest yarding for some time, and an Improvement in values of from 2s to 2s 6d per head over last week. Extra prime wethers 24s to 275, prime 19s 3d to 23s 6d, medium 17s 3d to J9s 3d. inferior 14s lOd to 17s, extra prime ew<w22s 3d, prime 15s 9d to. 17s 7d, ordinto 15s Gd, extra prime hoggets 22s 'id, prime 16s 6d to 19s 6d, inferior 8s 4d to 13s 9fi.
Fat Cattle—For good beef recent values were maintained, but inferior was more difficult to sell. Extra prime steers £2O, prime £l5 to £lB Is 6d, medium £9 7s 6d to £l4 10s, light and unfinished £6 to £9 2s 6d, ordinary heifers £6 15s to £8 17s 6d, light unfinished £5 5s to £6 10s, prime cows £8 10s to £ll 2s 6d, ordinary £5 to £B. Store Cattle.—Three-year steers £B, medium 2%-year steers £2 12s 6d to £4 12s 6d medium 3-year steers £6 ss, medium and good cows £2 to £3 10s, good 2-year heifers £4 7s 6d to £5 10s, yearling heifers (Friesian cross), £3 17s, inferior heifers 31s to £2 JBs, good vealers £3 12s Gd to £4 15s, medium £2 10s to £3 10s, small calves 6s to £2 7s 6d.
Dairy Cattle.—There was a spirited Bale, although a good deal of the yarding wtre inferior sorts. Purebreds £27, third and fourth calvers £l6, Jersey cross, first calvers £l7 10s, medium and good cows £ll. Fat Pigs.—Prices were generally firm, especially for pork values. Choppers £4 to £6 10s light baconers £5 to £5 10s, heavy £5 15s to £6 15s, extra heavy £7 10s (average price per lb 9d), light porkers £3 to £3 10s, heavy £3 15s to £4 7s (average price per lb 10%d). Store Pigs.—There was a spirited sale at advanced prices. Large stores £2 18s to £3 ss, medium £2 5s to £2 13s, good weaners £25 to £33, sows In pig £7, sows with litters £9 10s. PRICES AT BURNSIDE.
NOTABLE ADVANCE IN VALUE. Dunedin, Sept. 21. There were moderate yardings of sheep and pigs at Burnside sale to-day, while fat cattle were well represented. Thre was an advance in values for sheep and also for hoggets. The resumption of operations at the freezing works in the south is doubtless accountable for the advance in fat cattle, which were sold at prices in advance of those lately ruling. Pigs were eagerly sought after, and stores realised high prices. The first spring lambs of the season were offered, the quality of which was good, and they were sold at values which were’ most satisfactory to the vendors. Fat Cattle.—A good yarding of fair quality numbering 192 head. The sale opened at prices slightly under late rates and the sale closed with values 10s to 20s a head better in all grades, best beef selling round about 28s 6d per 1001 b. Prime bullocks realised from £l9 15s to £22 10s, (medium £l4 10s to £l7 10s, light and unfinished sorts from £lO upwards, prime heifers realised from £l3 14s, medium £9 10s to £l2 10s, light and aged from £7 upwards. Fat Sheep. V medium yarding, numbering 2150 head, consisting of fat sheep and hoggets. The quality was not up to last week’s standard. The sale opened under brisk competition at an advance of Is per head, and values hardened as the sale progressed. The casing sales of the day showed an advance of Is to 2s per head above last week’s rates. Extra prime wether mutton was worth close up to 3’Ad, ewe mutton 3 J Ad, extra prime heavy-weight wethers realised from 27s 6d to 29s 9d, prime 23s 6d to 265, medium 20s to 22s 6d, light and unfinished sorts 16s upwards. ’ Prime ewes realised from 16s 6d to 19s, medium 13s Gd to 15s 6d, light and aged from 10s 6d upwards. The small number of hoggets penned were keenly competed for, and were sold at prices fully 3s 6d per head in advance of last week’s values. Spring Lambs— Eight spring lambs were offered for sale, and these were sold under keen competition, one realising 245, one 28s, three 295, one 325, and two 375. The quality for early season was good. Store cattle.—Under 100 head were forward for this week’s sale. They were mostly young. Cattle buyers were not eager to stock up, and consequently the sale lacked animation. Several pens were passed out unsold, and those that, were sold barely realised late ruling rates. Dairy Cows. —There was a keen demand for guaranteed good dairy sorts, but these were few in number. Pigg— a medium yarding was offered, all classes being represented, and meeting with an excellent sale. There were numerous buyers for small pigs, and for this class prices were high. Small slips mode up to £3 3s each Baconers and porkers also met with a keen demand prices being well up to, and, in some instances, in advance of last weeks rates. Best baconers realised from 8d to 9d ner lb, and best porkers 9d to 9%d per lb. quotations: Suckers 33s to 425, slips 36s to 445, stores to 565, porkers 62a 6d to 80s, baoeaers 110« to 125 a, choppers aouo forward.
