THE RANFURLY SHIELD.
WELLINGTON BEAT AUCKLAND. TWENTY-SEVEN POINTS TO 19. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Auckland played Wellington to-day for possession of the Ranfurly Shield. The game was open, fast, and full of ii c.'dent. At the end of the first spell Auckland were leading 8 points to 6, the game being finally won by Wellington by 27 points to 19. Tries were obtained for Wellington by Jackson (2), B. Algar, S. Shearer, Nicholls, J. Shearer. Nicholls converted one try, potted a goal, and kicked one from an infringement. C. Badeley, V. Badeley, Williams and Ifwerson scored tries for Auckland. V. Badeley converted two and kicked a penalty goal. In a curtain-raiser Wellington B defeated King County by 11 points to-3. OTAGO v. HAWKE’S BAY. A DRAWN MATCH. Hastings, Last Night. The Otago-Hawke’s Bay football match was played to-day in ideal weather. It was a hard and even game, the score being 3 all just before halftime, when Otago secured a try. The score at half-time was: Otago 6. Hawke’s Bay 3. On changing over Otago had the better of the game until Hawke’s Bay broke away and later scored an unconverted try, making the score 6 all, at which the game ended five minutes later. TARANAKI v. AUCKLAND. THE TARANAKI TEAM. Mr. D. J. Malone has chosen the following team to represent Taranaki against Auckland on Saturday: —Berg, Coutts, Hickey, Kingston, Lusk, Oliver, Robertson, Fogarty, Campbell, Whittington. Masters, Ki veil, West, Birchall, Fryday. Emergencies: Hart, Hooker, Alien. McCullough. The Auckland team will arrive to-night. As a curtain-raiser, the final in the primary schools’ competition will be played between Eltham and New Plymouth High School preparatory, starting at 12.30 p.m.

Bishop, R. Pascoe (backs). THE LEAGUE GAME. AUSTRALASIANS EASY WIN. By Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyright. London, Sept. 20. The Australasians defeated Keighley by 29 points to 0. The weather was fine and windless, end the attendance 4000. The homo team held the visitors fairly in the first half, the latter’s passing being interfered with by the narrowness of the field. The only ■score was a try by Blinkhorn, which was converted by Norman. Play in the second half was quite onesided, the visitors running over Keiglilev. Tries were obtained by Ives, Burge, Peters, Horder, Norman and Blinkhorn. Two were converted by Norman and Burge kicked a penalty goal. Keighley played two short in the second spell owing to injuries.
