DOMINION ASSOCIATION. IMPORTANT DECISIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. The first meeting of the newly-elect-ed council to the Dominion of New Zealand Bowling Association was held at Dunedin to-day, Mr. Nicolson (president), of Dunedin, presiding. Members were present from Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and Invercargill.

Mr. Hanning (Dunedin), was appointed secretary to the council, and Mr. Grater was elected auditor. It was decided that an immediate past president be a. member of the council with voting power for the year following his presidency.

Regarding the powers of players to challenge bowls, it was agreed that in an association tournament any player or official may challenge a bowl on the ground that such bowl does not comply with the laws of the game. It was agreed unanimously that the whole matter of ‘bowl testing be left in the hands of the authorities of each centre to deal with as they think fit, provided it comes up to the acknowledged standard association, Taylor’s full drawing No. 3 bowl, and that the centre be notified.

One foot on the mat.—Tt was agreed that mats be not more than 48 inches long and 18 inches wide, each mat to be marked by a line one inch wide and three inches from the point of mat. A player at the moment of delivery must have one fobt not less than three inches in front of ths mat.

The following penalties were agreed to: First appeal to umpire, player cautioned; second and subsequent breaches (a) bowl to 'be declared dead and reAmoved from the green, (b) if bowl so removed came in contact with another bowl or jack, the skip of the opposing side shall have the option of leaving the head as it is and replacing the disturbed bowl or jack, or declaring the head dead.

It was decided that the levy be increased to 6d, reducible to 4 1 / s d if paid by December 1. It was decided that the annual meeting of the association be held at the headquarters of the newly-elected council in the second week In September, such meeting to be the first one of that body, the exact time and place to be fixed by the incoming president. Further recommendations dealt with necessary alterations to the rules contingent upon this change. It was decided that the Dominion tournament commence on Wednesday and Thursday, pairs Friday and Saturday, and sectional rinks on the 'following Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, rinks to consist of two games of 25 heads each daily. The following motion by Mr. Underwood (Wellington), was defeated: “The abolition of the two life system in “poet section’ play in favor of the winners of the minimum number .of section games to qualify, playing each other on the ‘sudden death’ principle, the losers w go out and the winners to play seven games, winners similarly, the winner? to then play the eight games, winners and losers going out, and so on to the final.”

It was agreed that arrangements for the tournament be left in the hands of the tournament committee, consisting of the council executive and the centre executive.

A strong recommendation added from the council was that when the committee is making the arrangements it should do so with the idea of shortening 'the period of play.
