BELGIUM’S GRATITUDE

BRITAIN’S HELP IN WAR. APPEAL FOR FRIENDSHIP. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received Sept. 21, 5.6 p.m. London, Sept. 21. M. Jasper, Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs, speaking at an Anglo-Bel-gian Union luncheon at Leige, said: “We are sometimes a little nervous. We are almost inclined to (forget the way in which the British Empire threw afl its material and moral force into the war when Belgium was invaded. We must not forget; we sometimes have moments of bitterness, but we must agree with France. We will only obtain tranquillity when the security of our frontiers is assured. Britain does not forget, but realises it is necessary to continue friendship, without which liberty and civilisation will cease. When questions of interest divide us, Belgium must remember that Britain did not sheathe the sword before we were delivered from the invader. Our hearts’ gratitude to Britain will be permanent.” —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
