THE APPEAL FOR FUNDS. A SPLENDID RESPONSE. By Telegraph —Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. At a service commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the death of Bishop Patterson, of the Melanesian Mission, the Rev. Dr. Sprott, Bishop of Wellington, announced the result up to date of the special appeal on behalf of the Melanesian Mission. A sum of £5OOO was asked for, being urgently required if the Southern Cross was to sail with supplies for the missionaries, and the total received up to the present was £6370, with a probability of a further £5OO at least coming in. The amount given in the Wellington diocese was £l2OO. His Lordship expressed pleasure at such a splendid Dominion response to the appeal.
