GOOD RAINS
BREAK OF THE DRY SPELL. REFRESHING THE CROPS. By Telegraph.—Press Association Christchurch, Sept. 17. Steady, heavy rain has fallen sine© early this morning, and has broken the long dry spell. Rain was badly wanted, and will be of tremendous benefit to crops and pastures. Timaru, Juist Night. The first good rain for many months set in yesterday morning. So far about three inches have fallen, but it seeing to be tapering off last night. Oamaru, Night. The spell of dry weather has broken. A very welcome rainfall of slight show-i ers fell yesterday afternoon, but rain, came on in earnest at nightfall, and al steady downfall continued all night. A large area in wheat will benefit, and what is more satisfactory the growing fears of a drought have been dispelled;
