ANGLICAN BACK-BLOCKS MISSION.

The general secretary of the Back Blocks Mission desires to acknowledge the sum of £lO contributed by Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Burgess. This has been placed by Archdeacon Evans to the credit of the Brown-Govett Fund, which

was established for assisting the Back Blocks Missions.

Last year Uruti, assisted by other (Ji*tricts, especially Urenui and Pukearuhe, made the first country advance towards helping the fund by holding a bazaar, the sum of £74 being the net result. This year the committee in charge are trying to arrange other bazaars in the district, each to be held on the same day.

One feature of last year’s bazaar was the very generous way to which all religious sects contributed. Donations, and

substantial ones, were generously given by members of all denominations. There is no doubt that in the country brotherly love is much in evidence, and that the admonition, “Faith, Hope, and Charity, and the greatest of these is Charity,” is put into actual practice. In the December bazaars, Christmas trees will be much in evidence. These proved a real source of delight to the wee country folk last year, and eager were the queries: “Will Father Christmas come again?”

The secretary appeals to all child lovers to especially help in this direction, as country children have so very few pleasures. That the fund is in urgent need of assistance, and that more missionary help is needed, is proved by the fact that in many back block places—even though there is a fair population—Pehu, for instance—a service has never been held.

Any help towards the B.BJtf. will be gladly received by the Ven. Archdeacon Evans or by the Victoria League. The honorary organising secretary for the district, Mrs. H. Larsen, “Woodlands,” Pehu, will be glad to answer 1 any eoaa.mtinieati.qf ”
