REST OF ENGLAND V. MIDDLESEX. ! By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Sept. 15. The rest of England defeated Middlesex by nine wickets. McLaren has been* appointed coach to the Lancashire County Club. HAWERA CLUB THE ANNUAL MEETING. The postponed annual meeting of members of the Hawera Cricket Club was held on Thursday. Mr. B. McCarthy presided over a good attendance. The chairman read the annual report and balance-sheet as follows: The (;eason commenced with two teams, Excelsior and Midlands, but after the first match had been played, on account of our increased ,ilt became necessary to place a third team. (Rivals) in the field. This naturally meant weakening the existing teams, as several players had to drop out to strengthen the newly-formed one, but to enable all members to play and in the interest of cricket generally we decided it was the best thing to do. Even so, out of seven teams, Excelsior finished up third in the championship (with two unfinished matches on hand), whilst our newest and weakest team (Rivals) just managed to avoid being last. In the batting averages for the whole championship Mr. Beechey was second with an average of 40.4 runs, but he was the only Hawera player to get placed within the first six. In the bowling averages we have two Hawera players in the six, Mr. McCarthy heading the list | with an average of 5.5 (54 wickets for 300 runs), and Mr. Beechey third with an average of 5.7 (50 • wickets for 286 runs). Both these players were in the Excelsior team. Our financial position is very satisfactory. We commenced the season with cash in hand .£3 15s, and outstanding liabilities amounting to £54 4s lid. Donations received totalled £43 !6s 2d, subscriptions collected £59 9s (season 1920-21 £47 !3s, season 191920 £ll 16s).
