DOMAIN BOARD.

The Inglewood Domain Board met on Wednesday. Present: Mr. J. R. Sutherland (chairman), and Messrs. W. H. Eagar, D. T. Egarr, R. Fawcett, A. B. Gamlin and F. Spurdie. An apology for absence was received from Mr. R. J. Ere win.

It was resolved, on the motion of the chairman and Mr. Gamlin, to adopt the report of the committee of inspection, which recommended laying pipes in the gully from the municipal baths to the boundary of the sports ground reserve, and to plant a hedge of Lawsoniania along the south side of Rata .Street, opposite the baths on the Trimble Park frontage.

■The clerk was directed to apply to the Inglewood Football Club for a percentage of takings at the gates of theground, 10 per cent, .to June 1, and 20 per cent, thereafter.

BOROUGH COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of . the Borough Council was then held, the same persons being present in their capacities of Mayor and councillors respectively. The council saw no reason to alter its decision not to join the Taranaki Local Bodies’ Association.

A reply to the Public Works Department that the council did not need any metal from the Te Wera quarry, as offered, was authorised.

Mr. J. Uncle’s application for a further’s year’s lease of the electric light paddock was' granted. Refunds of portion of charges for the Town Hall was, decided.on jn answer to applications from the- Inglewood Volunteer Eire Brigade, the Plunket Society and the Beautifying Society. The works' committee’s report was adopted, as was that of the electric light committee, in regard to which the purchase of a new exciter was resolved on. It was resolved to. obtain the solici-' tor’s opinion with regard to the hours, of closing the billiard saloons and the admission to them of youths. By ballot it was decided to accept the offer of Newton King, Ltd., agent for the Phoenix Insurance Co., for the council’s insurances during the ensuing year. The library committee’s report re tenders for painting, etc., was adopted.

SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The school committee met on Tuesday. Present: Mr. N. King (chairman), Mesdames Caldwell, Partridge and Winter, and Messrs. G. Burrows, A. Kennedy and P. Glenie (secretary). The inspector’s report on the examination recently held, and on matters connected with the school generally, was read, and gave great satisfaction. The matter, of the proposed shelter shed for girls attending the school was discussed. The plans submitted to the Education Board had not been entirely satisfactory, and it was decided that so soon as approved plans were received, steps should be taken to give them as much publicity as possible and call for tenders for the work.

It was resolved to ask . the co-opera-tion of the Inglewood Domain Board in an endeavor to. get an officer of the Forestry Department to give a lecture and demonstration on that subject in one ?f the' board’s reserves, at .which pupils of the school could be present. The chairman (Mr. King) and secretary (Mr. Glenie) were appointed delegates to wait on the board in support of the request. '

MUSIC EXAMINATIONS. The following are the results of the examinations of Miss Drake’s pupils at Inglewood in connection with the Trinity College of Music, London, conducted bv Mr. S. Myerscough, Miis'B. Oxbn, F.RU.O.:— Intermediate.—Nesta Street. Junior.—Sarah Haslett, Eileen Kendrick. Preparatory.—Jessie Messenger, Kenneth Ible. First Steps.—Francie Luke, Una Lile, •Ella Corkill. CATTLE SALE. The Farmers’ Co-op. sale yards x were well filled, especially the dairy section, for their sale on Wednesday, and there was a good attendance. The settlers generally were much, heartened'by the welcome warm rain experienced., nevertheless the bidding for other than dairy classes of cattle was no brighter than at late sales. Fat ewes sold for 225, 2-year-old steers for 30s, 3-year bullocks £2 10s. low conditioned backward springing heifers made from £5, £7, and up to- £lO, forward springers in better condition £l2 10s, a 2-year Jersey close up £25, Jersey strain second calvers reached £2O, ordinary cows (springing) from £l2 to £l6.
