Prizes for the best costumes worn in the hospital benefit hockey match yesterday were awarded as follows: Best costume, Mr. J. Weston; most original costume, Mr. J. Stevenson (Red Cross Nurse); special prize, Mr. L. Thomas. FIRE BRIGADE BALL. The Stratford Fire Brigade held their annual plain and fancy dress ball in the Town Hall last night, the function proving a success in every way. The hdll wag very prettily decorated for the occasion with flags and fernery, and a striking feature was the hose reel on the stage, with fernery and flowers intertwined in the wheels. The floor was crowded with dancers, all of whom spent a most enjoyable evening. The thanks of the brigade are due to the lady friends who provided ■, an excellent supper. The music was played ■ by Mrs. Bianchi’s orchestra, extras being i played by Mrs. Matthews and Misses Stade ; and Masters. The M.C.’s were Messrs. B. ! Davis and R. Pepperell. Although there were proportionately few fancy costumes, some striking and pretty designs were seen. Representatives from outside brigades were present. GENERAL. Miss M. Foley, mistress of the Cardiff School, is at present on a visit to Wellington. Mr. Thomas Vcikers, of Tuna, became seriously ill at his home on Thursday, and was brought to a private hospital at Stratford. His many friends will regret to hear that his condition is extremely critical. A list of Trinity College musical examination results was published in yesterday’s Stratford Notes. The examiner explains that the results cover the districts of Stratford, Inglewood, Tarata, Tariki, Toko, Douglas, Tatawa, Strathmore, Cardiff, Mahoe and Rowan. Business mon of Stratford and district are reminded that al) office supplies and requisites can be obtained from Messrs. Wilson Bros., Stratford, who have large stocks of commercial stationery, paper and envelopes; also typewriter ribbons and carbons. Phone 338.
