TO-DAY’S MATCH.
RAIN IN WELLINGTON.
POOR PROSPECTS OF CHANGE. THE TEAMS ANNOUNCED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Visitors are pouring into the city for to-morrow’s final test match between South Africa and New Zealand. The ■weather at the time of telegraphing is unfavorable. Rain set in this afternoon, and light showers are falling intermittently.
The weather forecast is also unfavorable, but in a special report to-night Mr. Bates (Government Meteorologist) says there is a remote chance of fine weather. The city is simply packed with visitors, and many are unable to secure accommodation. NEW ZEALAND. i The New Zealand team is officially announced as follows : Full-back: Kingston (Taranaki). Three-quarters: Steel (West Coast), M. Nicholls (Wellington), Siddells (Wellington). Five-eighths: Ifwerson (Auckland), Fea (Otago). Half: Roberts (Wellington). Wing-forward: Bellis (Wanganui). Forwards: Hookers, Duncan (Otago) and Fogarty (Taranaki); lock, Moffit (Wellington); Richardson (Otago), McLean (Poverty Bay), Fletcher (North Auckland), West (Taranaki). SOUTH AFRICA. Official information as to the Springboks team is not available, but the following are likely to take the field: Full-back: G. F. Morkel. Three-quarters: Zeller, Strauss, Meyer. Van Heerden. Halves: Michau, De Koch. Forwards: “Boy” Morkel, Walker, Ellis, Van Rooyen, Mostert, Duplessis, Royal Morkel, Mellish. Referee: Mr. A. C. Neilson. A CROWDED CITY. TARANAKI WELL PvEPRESENTED. PROSPECTS DISCUSSED. (By Wire —Special Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. Crowds are pouring into the city for to-morrow's match. Trains from Taranaki and elsewhere are crowded, whilst the road from Taranaki downwards is lined with motor cars, over 200 commg across Paekakariki to-night. A great many Taranaki sports are already here. Accommodation is difficult to obtain, and numbers will have to walk the streets to-night.
The New Zealand team is as published this morning, excepting that Duncan takes Turnbull’s place as a front ranker, the latter failing to pass the medical test to-day. Slight rain set in this afternoon and continued to-night, and the prospects are for a damp day to-morrow. The ground is not very wet yet, and unless the rain is heavier it will be in good condition to-morrow. A greasy field will suit New Zealand’s supporters, who are quietly confident of the result.
Mr. Jas. McLeod to-night said lie was satisfied with the New Zealand team, who were in great form, and he believed they could win. Others who are in close touch with the South Africans say they will develop features to-morrow that will turn the game in their favor. However, they do not like the prospects of a wet day, which will be against their system of play. Great difficulty will be found in finding room on the ground for the crowds. The capacity of the ground is about 30,000. Seats are at a premium, and one changed hands to-day at £B.
