UNREST IN INDIA.

TROUBLE CONTINUES. DESTRUCTION BY REBELS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received Sept. 17, 1.20 a.m. Delhi, Sept. 15. A Malabar communique states that military columns are still operating in some of the disturbed districts. Rebels sniped troops after passing through some villages. It is reported that a police sub-inspector and two constables were murdreed at Yatekara. It is also reported that all Government buildings at Nilambur were burned, and a bridge between Mt ibad and Nilambur was destroyed. REBELS CONDEMNED. Delhi, Sept. 15. Influential Moplah merchants at Calicut state that it is unjust to condemn all the Moplahs on account of the Ernad fanatics, who were badly misled, and waged war at the instigation of agitators.

The merchants likened them to mad dogs who should bo shot at sight. They are of' opinion that the magnitude of the outbreak i? dye to the abolition of the Malapparam and Cannanore military stations, which were the centre of the disturbance, and recommend their restoration.

A large portion of the rebels served in the army in Mesopotamia, hence the destruction of bridges, railways and telegraphs, hitherto an unknown feature of Moplah risings. Business is paralysed at Malabar. A modest computation is that 70 Hindoos were outraged by forcible conversion to Islam.—Times.
