A SETTLER’S DEATH
; FOUND DEAD ON ROAD. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dannevirke, Sept. 16. Thomas W. Effingham, one of the original settlers at Whetukura, was found dead this morning alongside his motor car near Ormondville, with a gunshot wound in the head and a double-barrelled gun in the car with one chamber discharged. Deceased was en route to Dannevirke at the time of his death. He was a well-known farmer, a member of the Dannevirke A. and P. Association, the Dannevirke War and Repatriation Societies, and of the Waipawa Hospital Board. Dannevirke, Last Night. At the inquest on Thomas Wm. Ellingham, who was found dead alongside his car near Ormondville, evidence was given that deceased's financial position was satisfactory. The coroner found that death was due to a gunshotwound in the face between the eyes, but there was not sufficient evidence to show how the discharge of th? shotgun which inflicted the injuries was caused.
