STRATFORD AGENCY. Advertisements and items of news for publication in the Taranaki Daily News should be left at the office- of our local representatives, Wilson Bros., Broadway, Stratford: Or uum for papers may also be left with them, HOSPITAL BENEFIT. Sept. 15. A fancy-dress hockey match was played at Victoria Park to-day for the purpose of raising money for the Stratford Hospital. A team representing the men of the town played against the Egmont Ladies’ Club, the match resulting in a draw, each side scoring 4 goals. The men were required to appear in full feminine dress, and their ideas were reflected in many weird and variegated costumes. Before the match started both teams, paraded through the town, headed by 1 Mr. B. Vinsen and a more or less (mostly less) tuneful band. The procession attracted a great deal of attention, with the result that a large crowd followed, and both side-lines of the ground were crowded with spectators. The match itself proved very amusing, and the “special” doctor whom the men’s team brought with them found a number of patients. All who have worked for the benefit are to be congratulated on their success, as about £25 was taken at the match in admission money and collection, and this carries a Government £ for £ subsidy.
