HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLED REPORT. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated September 10, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand land, London: — Meat.—Mutton market quiet. Lamb market dull and prices easier. Market is affected by large supplies of fresh lamb and heavy arrival of imported. Buyers holding off. Stocks.—London, September 8: Canadian, 135,654 crates, against 97,178 crates last year: New Zealand, 5090 crates, against 12,691 crates last year. Casein.—'Market quiet. English rennet quoted at £6O per ton, French £5O per ton, Argentine lactic at £5O per ton.
Wool.—Sales continue strong and competition keen for all classes. Merinos and fine crossbreds now 20 per cent, higher than closing rates last series, low crossbreds 10 per cent.
P.A.C., STRATFORD. The P.A.C. (Stratford) report conducting a rpost successful meat auction sale last Saturday. A large quantity of prime ox beef and wether mutton was offered In suitable joints and quarters, and prices were as follows: Mutton: Hindquarters 6s Gd, 7s, average per lb. 4%d; forequarters 4s to ss, average per lb. 3%d. Beef: Sirloins 6d per lb., prime ribs 5d to 6d per lb., blade roasts 4d per lb., topside Gd per lb, rump and undercut steak lOd per lb., fresh sllverside Gd per lb., corned beef 4d tb Gd per lb., other cuts 2d to 3d per lb. Ox tails Is, ox hearts 9d, ox kidneys Gd each, suet 4d per lb. These prices are lower than those at previous sales, and the prospects are that prices will be much lower in a few weeks' time, especially with mutton. LAMASON’S (STRATFORD) MART. T. Lamason’s weekly report says: My usual weekly sale was held at my rooms last Saturday, when a fair attendance was present. Rather a small entry of poultry and general auction lines came to hand, despite the fact that is a very, good demand for poultry (particularly hens and chickens and broody hens, and any suitable lines)'.
