BOXING.

TOURNAMENT ON SATURDAY 24th. The programme for the Taranaki Boxing Association’s big tournament, which takes place in the Coronation Hall on Saturday, 24th inst., appears in this issue. It is the best programme yet offered to the public by the association. The star item is the big fifteen•roundis professional contest for the middle-weight championship of the Dominion, the contestants being Laurie Cadman, of Auckland (challenger) and Jack Heeney, of Gisborne (the holder). The puree is for £2OO (including expenses). This is easily the best professional contest ever staged in Taranaki, and interest in it is being taken in all parts of the Dominion. Uadman is fast coming to the fore, while Heeney has proved himself a great boxer. The amateur bouts have been carefully arranged and the programme is in keeping with the big professional bout. In the fly weight Collins, of Stratford, will meet Sullivan, of Stratford. Both these lads are well worth seeing. The bantam weight promises to be a splendid bout. The contestants will be C. McCarthy, one of Auckland’s best bantams, and S. Davis, of New Plymouth. Davis is very clever and will keep McCarthy moving. In the light weight S. Hope," of New Plymouth, will meet V. Brosnan, of New Plymouth. This should be a very even bout. In the welter weight Jack Willis, of New Plymouth (the ex-champion of the Boys’ High School), will try conclusions with A. Clarry, of Eltham. This will also be a good contest. A heavy weight contest has been arranged, and Mills, of Riverlea, will be matched with L. S. Pepperell, of Matapu. This promises to be an excellent bout.

The referee will be Mr. Frank Burns, of Auckland, who officiated at the last tournament.

Prices of admission have been fixed at £1 Is (for ring-side), 10s, ss, and back seats at 3e.
