PREVALENCE OF PILLAGING. By Telegraph.—Press Christchurch, Last Night. William Love, a watersider, who pleaded . guilty to a charge of stealing various articles valued at ten shillings, the property of the Union Steam Ship Company, was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment. The evidence showed the accused had gone on board the Paloona, and coming off he was stopped by Customs officials and found in possession of the articles. The Magistrate said this class of offence was carried on extensively in the Dominion, many persons engaged on transport work looking upon pillaging as a fair means of increasing their incomes.
