SPORTING.
TARANAKI JOCKEY CLUB MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the committee of the Taranaki Jockey Club was held last night. Present: Messrs. L. A. Nolan (in the chair), W. C. Weston, W. P. Nicol], A. Alexander, L. B. Webster, G. Fraser, A. R. Standish, W. T. Hookham, and B. H. Chaney. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. O. W. Sole and J. McLeod, and leave of absence was granted to Mr. Newton King. A report from the grounds committee with regard to certain improvements now being undertaken on the course was adopted.
The meeting adopted the programme committee’s recommendations regarding the Christmas meeting. The committee have decided that the stakes shall remain the same as for last year, butthe programme will be slightly altered. Ou the first day the fourth .race, a hack handicap, will be altered to a hack handicap for two and three-year-okLs. The Tikorangi Hack Handicap (the seventh race) will be for three-year-olds and upwards. On the second day the hurdles will be of miles over seven flights. The third race will be a hack handicap for two and three-year-olds, and the Warea Hack Stakes will be for three-year-olds and upwards. •
The North Taranaki Cricket Association wrote asking the club to roll the cricket pitches on the cqurse, and this was agreed to. A sub-committee, consisting of the chairman, and Messrs. \Veston, Fraser and Standish, was set up in connection with the Racing Commission’s report, and were given power to act. Correspondence was received from the Racing Conference with regard to the exclusion of undesirables from racecourses, and it was decided to refer the matter to the club’s solicitor. A certificate of fitness in connection with the issuing of a gentleman rider’s certificate was granted to L. R. Skelton, and an application for a certificate of fitness for a jockey’s license was held over.
It was decided to call tenders for the painting of several buildings on the club’s property. The club’s architect was instructed, to prepare plans and spec!fiaitions in brick and cement for loose boxes.
A tender was accepted for the asphalting of paths around the custodian’s house.
