INGLEWOOD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Sept. 12. The endeavor on Saturday by, way of I a mart in support of the ladies’ ' room in the borough, was not altogether the success hoped for. One of the ladies, on whose exertions much dependence was placed. was unable through illness to play her part, besides which the idea had not been fully grasped by others, who, after they got to know the hang of things, expressed their willingness to help. However, thanks to Mrs. Sutherland (the Mayoress), assisted by Mrs. J. Burgess, of Durham Road, and one or two other country residents, the one stall that was in commission did good business, so much so that it has encouraged the good wives of the district to decide on having another day's trial, when they are determined to show that one rebuff cannot daunt them. At Newton King. Ltd.’s mart sale on Saturday a fair number of infant calves, as well as pigs of various sizes, were in evidence, as well as Mr. Paterson’s carrying team horses. As usual the heifer calves made the pace in their race, selling at from 6? to 355, while the bulls only- reached 3s fid. Pigs sold well throughout, realising from 22s 6d to 31s for weaners to 40s for fair stores, and £3 12s fid for porkers. t Mr. Paterson’s horses made £24 and £27 to £4O, their harness also selling .well. The waggon and express sold at £22 10s and £25. A line of fence posts went at Is 2d, cocks and hens at 2s to 2s 9d, ducks 3s 3d. and the vegetables and general sundries at satisfactory rates.
