Negotiations have been concluded whereby a, powerful American syndicate will champion the claims of the Austrian Archduke, Frederick, against the various Central European Governments which sequestrated and confiscated properties estimated to be worth £40,000,000. These consist of land and industrial holdings, including steel works and mines at Teschen, the return of which the syndicate is anxious to secure with a view to the resumption of operations on American lines. ANTARCTIC (EXPEDITION. Received Sept. 12, 10.25 p.m. Capetown, Sept; 12. Mr. Goddard, professor of geology and zoology at the Stellenbosch University, has been nominated to fill the last vacancy on the staff of the Quest expedition, which was reserved for South Africa.
