CRISIS IN HUNGARY.
BISING OF INSURGENTS.
THE POSITION WORSE. ALLIES MAY ACT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Sept. 10. The latest reports state that the Aus-tro-Hungarian crisis is rendered worse by Austria withdrawing all the gendarmerie from Burgenland, and as she is forbidden to send troops, Austria now declines to attempt to cope with the armed Hungarian insurgents who have spread over the old Austrian frontier as far as Kirchschlag. Tn addition the position is complicated owing to the Magyars still officially holding the capital of the province, until Austria pays certain alleged liabilities. The militarist leaders have established themselves there and are defying both the Allies and Austria. Vienna reports express scepticism regarding the Hungarian Government’s protestations that it is unable to control the militarist leaders. The Austrian Government regards the position as one calling for prompt Allied action, as it is feared the militarist successes will give a great impetus to the movement for the reinstatement of the exEmptror Karl. Paris, Sept. 11. The Ambassadors’ Conference sent the Hungarian Ambassador a Note, stating that acts of violence committed by Hungarians in West Hungary directly involve the responsibility of the Hungarian Government, which is invited to evacuate Burgenland. The Note declared that punitive measures will be taken to ensure the execution of treaty engagements if Hungary persists in her present attitude. Received Sept. 12, 7.20 p.m. Vienna, Sept. 7. The Government is despatching all available troops to protect the frontier against the Hungarian insurgents, who are now looting in Austrian territory. The first Austrian brigade marched through Vienna on Sunday. An advanced body crossed the Leitha river at Bruck and entered Hungarian territory with the full sanction of the inter-Allied commission.
