BUTTER PRICES LOWER. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. London, September 9. Butter prices have been reduced aa follow: New Zealand first and second grades 2245, Australian ditto 200 s. LONDON MARKETS. London, September 9. ShaTe quotations.—P. and 0., buyers £345, sellers £355. At the mixed wool sale there was brisk Continental and Home competition, Yorkshire showing Increased activity. For merinos the market, was very strong. Merinos are now 10 per cent, above July closing rates, crossbreds 15 to 20 per cent., medium 10 to 15 per cent., low qualities 5 to 10 per cent. N.Z. LOAN & MERCANTILE REPORT. At Opunake on the 22nd ult. the yarding sold at full market rates. Yearling heifers (mixed colors) £2 10s to £3 14s, empty heifers to £5 12s 6d, springing heifers (good) £l2 10s to £l5, backward and inferior £9 to £lO, cows (best) £2O. At Palmer Road on the 26th ult. we had a full yarding of all classes of stock. Bidding was brisk throughout and a very good .sale resulted. A pen of choice grade Jersey yearling heifers (well grown) made the top price for this season, these made £9 16s, Jersey 2-year springing heifers (best) £lB to £2B, backward £ll to £l5, other breeds £9 10s to £l3 ss, fat and forward cows £3* to £s’, empty Jersey heifers £7 to £7 10s, boners at market values, yearling heifers Jersey cross and Holstein £3, store pigs 28s to 375, fat hoggets 14s. At Opunake on the 27th ult. we held our Spring horse fair. Draughts made to £4O, hack and harness horses £8 to £23, dray and harness £37 10s.
At Kakaramea on Monday we held our usualfortnightly sale and also conducted a sale of Mr. S. C. Tonks’ annual draft of springing heifers. The heifers were all 3 year olds, well into the Jersey, in tip top condition, and close to profit. These were a choice lot and met with very spirited bidding, the line of forty making the high average of £2O. The prices ranged from £l5 to £33. On account of other vendors prices were as follows: Springing heifers (good) £l5 to £l9, others £7 to £lO 10s, sow and litter £8 ss, store pigs small to 365, fat hoggets Ils 4d, empty cows £1 lbs to £2 ss.
At Eltham on the 30th ult. we held our fortnightly sale, owing to the Hawera races being held on Wednesday. Fat and forward wethers maife Ils to 13s 6d. forward cows to £2 14s, springing cows £1.3 to £lB 10s, heifers, inferior £7.
On Thursday at Hawera we had a good yarding of both sheep and dairy cattle. Apart i from yearlings few store cattle camo forward. Practically the whole yarding was sold under the hammer at full market rates. We quote: Fat and forward wethers 15s 6d, 4 and 6-tooth wethers Ils 2d, hoggets to 7s 9d, store pigs to 565, small pigs 37s to 425, suckers 13s, cows (good condition) to £3 15s, stores 15s to 255, Jersey yearling heifers to £6 7s fid. others (well grown) £4 to £4 10s, springing heifers (good) £l2 10s to £l5, backward and inferior sorts £7 to £lO 10s, cows (medium) to £l5, old and inferior £7 to £lO.
On Friday at Waverley we had only a small entry. Prices at late rates.
