BRITAIN’S UNEMPLOYED.
RIOTS AT DUNDEE. TROUBLE IN SUNDERLAND. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Sept. 9. Serious rioting was renewed in Dubdee last night. Shop windows were smashed for a distance of three-quar-ters ofi a mile. Police baton charges ultimately dispersed the mob, which split into small parties and went to Lochee and other districts and continued the destruction of windows. All the police force was employed, also specials.
Thousands of unemployed in Sunderland invaded the business centre of the town. While the leaders were interviewing the Board of Guardians part of the huge crowd came in conflict with the police, who were compelled to use batons. Five unemployed were sent to hospital.
RELIEF SCALE RESCINDED. Received September 11, 5.5 p.m. London, Sept. 10. Amid protests from a deputation of unemployed the Islington Board of Guardians is carrying out the Health Ministry’s ruling, and they have rescinded the unemployment relief scale of 73s weekly.
