BRITISH ASSOCIATION.
PRINCIPLE OF WAGES. By Telegraph.—Pre»« Awn —Copyright. London. Sept. 9. Mr. W. L. Hitchens, chairman of the Cammell Laird Shipbuilding Company, And president of the economic section of the British Association, discussed the |nmciples of wages determination. He condemned compulsory arbitration, preferring mutual agreement between employers and employed. He did not believe in profit sharing as a solution of the problem of the fair distribution of the proceeds of industry, and did not support the scheme of single men fvages with allowances for wives and children. That remedy was worse than fhe disease. It would have to be administered by the State, and he could not imagine a mere detestable form of State socialism.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
