HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS INVOLVED
By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.
Received Sept. 10, 1.30 a.m.
London, Sept. 9.
Sir E. Geddes’ business men’s economy committee has found ways of saving hundreds of millions in the next estimates.
The committee’s main recommendation is the abolition of Labor exchanges. They admit some local machinery will be necessary while the Government continues to pay unemployment insurance, but believe it can be done simply and cheaply. The committee has made startling recommendations for economising in Mesopotamia and Palestine, but this will involve an . important consideration of Cabinet policy. Other recommendations are drastic economies in expenditure on the army and liaval dockyards. It' is hoped to economise further by reducing the cost of the size of the civil service, though difficulties may be expected to be encountered. —United Service.
