Australia won by an innings and 46 runs. DETAILS OF PLAY. The weather was glorious, the wicket was sweaty, and the attendance small. Curiously, the Englishmen made exactly the same score in both innings. Armstrong and Mailey divided the bowling honors. Strudwick and Lee resumed to the bowling of Mailey and Macdonald. The batting was lively, and the partnership added 60 in 43 minutes. Strudwick was taken at the wicket, at three for 68. Ashton helped to keep the field busy until, just after the century was reached, he got his leg in front of Armstrong. Lee, at 113, was finely caught in front of the screen. Meantime Armstrong made several shuffles of the bowling. After lunch Gregory was not available, owing to a hurt to bis knee. With Wilson and Tate dismissed the score was seven for 136. The Gilligan-Relf partnership was sparkling, and put on 37. Gilligan knocked Mailey for a sixer and a couple of fours in one over. He was caught on the boundary.
