CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER. By Telegraph —Press Association. Christchurch, Sept. 7. As a sequel to the Lincoln Road fatalty on August 30, Archibald Lloyd, a taxi driver, was arrested on a charge of manslaughter. He appeared before the Magistrate’s Court and was remanded for a week, bail being allowed. ESCAPED PRISONER CAPTURED. Wellington, Sept. 7. Frank Page, a prisoner at the Witako Prison, Trentham, escaped yesterday, and was recaptured this morning in Whiteman’s Valley. CHINESE HOUSE BURNED. Wellington, Sept. 7. A house occupied by Chinese gardeners at Miramar was destroyed by fire to-day and £4OO in notes was lost. EARTH SHOOKS AT RUOTOREA. Gisborne, Sept. 7. Rnotorea reports a fairly severe earthqifcike at 1.50 p.m. yesterday. It caused a good many breakages in the stores and houses. About two hours afterwards a severe earthquake took place, doing considerable damage in the district. A number of chimneys were cracked and some seriously damaged, so much so that many residents were afraid to light fires. This shock did more damage at the stores. Huge rocks were seen falling from the mountains up the Tapuaeroa Valley, raising clouds of dust.
A number of tremors and slight earthquakes were felt between 4 and 10 p.m.
