WRECKAGE AT MANGERE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Sept. tf. Wreckage, consisting of pine beams and decking painted red, in a good stare of preservation has been -found on the beach at Mangere. An American dime .and a pair of scissors were amongst the timber. The scissors were not rusty. Apparently the wreckage was washed ashore in the westerly gale about three weeks ago. WORK FOR UNEMPLOYED. Wellington, Sept. C. A deputation consisting of Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P., and Mr. J. W. M'Ewan, Mayor of Petone, waited on Sir Francis Bell to-day to request that the Government should complete the reading ot the Wilford settlement in the Hutt Valley in order to provide work for the unemployed. It was suggested by Mr. Wilford that the Government should back the wage warrants of the workers on the Guernsey market plan in order to finance the undertaking, stating that the local shopkeepers were willing to accept warrants. Sir Francis Bell said he would ask the Minister of Lands if the money was available for completing loading work, but stated that he had no power to guarantee wage warrants, an idea which did not attract him.
