TRAMWAY REGULATIONS.
DEPUTATION TO MINISTER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Sept. 6. A deputation of the Tramways Employees’ Federation interviewed the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. J. G. Coates, to ask that the gazetting of the tramway regulations be expedited. The deputation stated that the Act was passed eleven years ago, and the regulations were not yet in operation. Accidents bad occurred in various places which the federation contended would have been avoided if the regulations had been in operation. The Minister pointed out that the local authorities might be unable to finance the extra cars and power equipment to meet the regulations. The deputation replied that a conference with the controlling authorities would enable that matter to be settled, satisfactorily. Jf an agreement eras not reached the question could be settled by the Minister. The. federation preferred a conference to the immediate gazetting of the regulations, as the conference would probably remove several points of disagreement. » Mr. Coates said the regulations could be gazetted now, but he agreed to circulate copies in a week and to call a conference of the federation and the tramway authorities in about a fortnight.
