DAVIS CUP MATCH. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. New York, September 5. Tilden defeated Kumagae 9 —7, 6— l, fl —1. The Jap’s conservative . close playing stood him in good stead. While he was not sufficiently aggressive successfully to oppose the American, nevertheless he compelled Tilden to extend himself in order to win the first two sets, but the Jap. quickly weakened in the third set under Tilden’s cannon-ball services and returns. It is understood that Kumagae intends permanently to retire from the tennis world on returning to Japan. FINAL AMERICAN VICTORY. New York, September 5. Johnson defeated Shimidzu fl—3, 's—7. 6 2, 6—4. Johnson had less difficulty iu defeating Shimidzu than Til den had on Friday.
