GENERAL CABLES.
GIRL’S SWIMMING RECORD. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyrlgti. London, Sept. 4. Iris Martin, aged twelve, swam sixteen miles from Rochester to Sheerness. LABOR’S RIVAL POLICIES. London, Sept. 5. Mr. Thomas, M.P., speaking at Cardiff, said, the trade union ranks included Communists who frankly believed that the most effective way to get reform was- to uproot the social system by means of a bloody upheaval, using every industrial dispute for the purpose. The rival policy was to use the position to the best advantage by means of trade union activities and solidarity. Attempts to reconcile these opposite policies had almost wrecked the Miners’ Federation and would have wrecked the Railwaymen’s Union if he had not had the courage to fight Communists.
BRITISH TRADE SHIP. London, Sept. 5. The British trade ship commences an 18 months’ voyage to South America, South Africa, Australia, China and India next summer. The ship, named British Industry, will be specially fitted. She is a 20,009-ton vessel with eight decks. There will be banking, insurance and offices, and an ornate reception hall in which manufacturing processes will be depicted.
