SET BACK TO LABOR PARTY. By Telegraph.—Press Awn—Copyright, Received September 2, 9.15 p.m. Brisbane, September 2. Mr. Peterson, Labor member for Normanby, has resigned from the party, leaving Mr. Theodore with a majority of 1, exclusive of the Speaker. Mr. Peterson states that his hopes in the Labor Party have been shattered. He believed it to be a warm, humane movement, but found it a cold, political machine, to be kept running by beguiling the worker.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
REDUCING HOTELS.

The Assembly has passed a Bill providing for the compulsory reduction o-f hotels. The number is to be not fewer than 45, nor more than 100 within three years, compensation to be paid out of funds to be drawn from the trade. DELEGATES TO THE LEAGUE. Received September 2, 8.5 p.m. Melbourne, September 2. The Federal Ministry has appointed Mr Bruce, a member of the House of Representatives, who is now in London, to accompany Mr. Shepherd (actingHigh Commissioner) to the meeting of the League of Nations Assembly at Geneva.

STATE ORCHESTRA PROJECT. Received September 2, 8.5 p.m. Sydney, September 2. As over £5OOO has been subscribed
towards the State Orchestra Company, the committee has decided to register the company. With the amounts still expected from New Zealand and Queensland, it is believed there will be no difficulty in raising the balance of £7OOO originally required.
