DAIRY PRODUCE.
BULK ON OPEN CONSIGNMENT.
PRODUCERS’ MARKETING ASSOCIATION.
The bulk of this season's dairy produce will be shipped overseas on open consignment. Speaking to a Dominion representative, Mr. T. C. Brash, secretary of the National Dairy Aso< said that no sales had been made in the Dominion for the whole of the season's output of butter. Sales had been effected during the past fortnight covering production up to the end of November, at 2s Id to 2s P/od per lb. The latest sale was reported only on Tuesday last, the price secured being 2s Id. On the basis of the High Commissioner’s present prices the export value for the Dominion’s bulk butter was in the neighborhood of 2s 2d per lb. Most of the butter would, however, be sent Home on open consignment. The same remark applied to cheese. A few outputs of cheese had been sold at prices up to 11 5/8d for the whole season’s make.
Questioned with regard to the activities of the Producers’ Marketing Association, Mr. Brash said that the factories that had shipped through this organisation last year would, it was anticipated, all do,so again this season. In addition a fair number of other factories would also throw in their lot with the association, which last yeai
handled just on 7000 tons of cheese. Al» butter was, of course, purchased last year by the Imperial Government. With a free market once again operating, the association would this year handle both cheese and butter. The scheme, of course, was as yet in its infancy, but so far it had made reasonably good progress.
