LORD NORTHCLIFFE

IMPRESSIONS OF ROTORUA. TROUT OVA FOR ENGLAND. Lord Northcliffe has been spending much of his time in Rotorua in seeing friends from both islands and making inquiries into the question of British immigration to New Zealand and the investment of British capital in the Dominion.

Referring to his visit to the Government fish hatchery and the Fairy Spring, he remarked that the hatchery under the charge of Mr. Moorhouse had developed several innovations which might be copied with advantage in Great Britain. Mr. Moorhouse had suggested that rainbow trout from this Dominion and New Zealand whitebait might with advantage be introduced into British rivers, and Lord Northcliffe said he was going to import the ova of both into England, to be placed in his river in Hampshire. The visitor went to the Hamarana Springs, which he considers one of the most beautiful natural phenomena he has seen in any part of the world. He expressed himself as greatly surprised at the size and the immense number of the trout which he saw ascending the streams.
