The largest boot manufacturing firm iu Christchurch has eighty hand 4 employed at present, whereas the firm usually employs 175 to 189 hands. To-morrow morning, at 10 o’clock Alessrs. Webster Bros, are selling the racehorse Birkwind, with engagement* at to-morrow’s hunt meeting. An auction sale of particular interest to householders will be held in the Farmers’ Co-operative Organisation Society’s warehouse in Powderham Street, New Plymouth, to-day, at 1 p.m. A large quantity of groceries, paint, and sundries will he submitted, and there is every indication of bargains being available for keen buyers.
Our country reader* are reminded of. the grand concert given by the visiting choir of Opuuake, consisting of 30 voices, at the Hempton Hall, Oka-to, on Saturday evening. They will be assisted by leading talent of baonui, Rahotu and Okato. The same programme of instrumental and vocal items, which drew large attendances at Opunake and Rahotu, w»U be submitted.
