FORESTRY.
v DELEGATES’ MEETING. At Eltham on Tuesday, D.C.R. Bro. Joeh Andrews presided at the half-yearly meeting of officers and delegates of the Ancient Order of Foresters. Others pre* sent were:—S.D.C.R. Bro. F- Colemanj D. 8., Bro. C. Harvey; D.T., Bro, A, R. Cattley; D.L., Bro. A. J. Tunbridge. Delegates: P.D.C.R. Bro. A. Way (Court Taranaki, New Plymouth); P.D.C.R., Bro. R. Fawcett (Inglewood); P.C.R., Bro. R. E. Kivell (Stratford); P.C.R., Bro. A. E. Rogers (Eltham); P.C.R.’s, Bros. J, Frewin and W. Cliff (Court Waireka, New Plymouth); P.C.K., Bro. H. 8. Tate (Waitara).
The balance-sheet for the half-year disclosed a healthy state of affairs, the credit being £1586, whilst the report congratulated the Courts on the substantial progress made in membership and the ' growth of individual court funds. Reference was made to the initiation of the Governor-General (Lord Jellicoe) to the Order, and various other matters of interest to members were touched upon. The report and balance-sheet were adopt* ed.
There was a free and full discussion on the question brought forward of the neglect of some court secretaries to carry out their duties. It waa pointed out that neglect in this direction entailed a great deal more work on the district secretary and treasurer, which should rightly be attended to by individual court officials. Neglect in this direction also held up the work of the district, as the district officers were unable to complete returns until the neceesary information was obtainable. Delegates were emphatic that something should be done to remedy matters, and eventually a motion was carried instructing delegates of dilatory courts to bring the matter before members. In the meantime efforts will also be made by the district officers to attend the same courts and urge a general livening-up of secretarial work.
In detailing the results of htg visit to Auckland to assist at the initiation of Lord Jellicoe as a Forester, Bro. Andrews related in detail the proceedings taken in that direction, and, on behalf of the district, extended an invitation to the distinguished brother to honor the brethren with a visit when he came to New Plymouth. The matter of entertaining Lord Jellicoe as a brother of the Order was left to the district officers to ascertain Bro. Jellicoe’s movements, and, if necessary, prepare accordingly.
Nominations for officers for the ensuing year were then received as under:— D.C.R., Bro. F. Coleman; S.D.C.R., Bro. W. Draper; D.W., Bro. C. Harvey; DB., Bros. A. E. Rogers (Eltham), R. E. Kivell (Stratford), and A. Leech (Inglewood ). A hearty vote of thanks to Court Pride of Eltham for use of hall and hospitality extended the visitors,. was carried.
The next meeting will be held at Inglewood during February.
