THE PRICE OF BUTTER.
FIXED MAXIMUM REVOKED.
INCREASE LIKELY TO-DAY.
Housewives will probably find buttedearer to-day. Last year the maximun price of butter for consumption in Nev Zealand was fixed at 2/3 per lb., and aj»‘ Order-in-Council has been gazetted revoking this from to-day, when a free market op°rates.
No official statement was available last night, beyond a Press Association telegram from Auckland stating that the retail price of butter has been raised there by Id wholesale and 2d retail. A Daily News reporter gathered last night that the new pricea he-e would be 2d more, but storekeepers were evidently waiting for a lead from other towns.
